CITY Homicide star Nadine Garner is not planning to have a lot of rest and relaxation between signing off from the hit TV drama and becoming a mum.
Garner will be on the set of the popular cop drama until just days before she is due to give birth to her second child next month.
Garner, who plays Det Sen-Constable Jennifer Mapplethorpe on the show, and her husband, Cameron Barnett, have a son, Edan, 3.
“I was originally going to finish up after we complete this current block, but then they decided to write me into the next block,'' Garner said.
“So my final day of shooting will be two days before my due date.''
Garner will take an eight-week break from the series after the birth of her child.
She said the fact her character was not pregnant in the show meant that she had to disguise her expanding figure during filming.
“You can't be too precious about these things,'' she said.
“We have affectionately referred to it (her tummy) as the lump, so it has all been about hiding the lump.
“I have had people tweaking my jacket, pushing something like a desk a little more in front of me, or getting me to stand behind other characters.''
Her character will be missing from only four episodes while Garner is on maternity leave.
Nadia Townsend has joined the cast as Det Sen-Constable Allie Kingston.

Nadine Garner ‘mum’ on City Homicide
By David Knox
Don’t be surprised if you see a lot of Nadine Garner from the waist up next year. She’s expecting her second child -not due until after the City Homicide begins shooting its third series.
Before filming on series two ended in October she says crew already had to start compensating for her growing bulge.
“It got a bit hairy toward the end there,” she said. “I was being whisked away by wardrobe to be changed into something that was a little more disguising. But we got away with it. There was a little bit of folder acting and a lot of desk work!”
Next year will be an even trickier challenge for everyone.
“I really will be on the phone!” she laughed. “A lot.”
Garner says Seven still has eight episodes of the drama up its sleeve, held in stockpile after Seven had already won the ratings year.
“They thought ‘well we’re not going to waste any more brand new episodes, so we’ll hold those back for next year,’ which I’ve got mixed feelings about whether that’s the right thing to do,” she said.
“There’s 2 or 3 really hard-hitting that we thought were going to close series 2, that have been pushed to next year.”
The third series will also see an additional cast member joining the State Police.
“I’ve got a female colleague coming on board for the next series which will be really great. A new actress called Nadia Townsend joining the team, so I won’t be the only gal.”

There isn't a lot of news going around at the moment. Though the AFI Awards which City Homicide has a few nominations in are being held tonight and tomorrow night. Check local guides for times. If any pictures pop up, I'll post them on the site.
Nadine did present an APRA award on November 3.

I'm going to try to get all the City Homicide screen captures all updated by the mid-January along with some more articles and reviews, at which time I'll be heading overseas for a month, so you will only see sporadic updates around then.

Studio closes
THE end of filming on the second series of City Homicide has also signalled the farewell of a Melbourne TV landmark.
Channel 7's Studio One in South Melbourne shut this weekend, after 52 years of producing some of the city's treasured TV shows.
It was particularly moving for City Homicide star Shane Bourne, who first wandered into the Dorcas St compound to perform on The Happy Show when he was 10 years old.
It was reported in this week’s Who Magazine that Nadine is 4 months pregnant with her second child. Congrats to Nadine, Cameron and Edan on this news.
The Unofficial NG Site sends along well wishes to all three.
