Composing a hit.

DESPITE some audience-denting lukewarm reviews early on, Peter Shaffer's Amadeus at the Athenaeum gained momentum as the month unfolded, so much so that the season has been extended by at least a week. A tour of Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney next year is also on the cards. With the season now scheduled to run until 9 October, cast and crew expect a few punters flying in early for the festival to catch Barry Otto, Rhys Muldoon and Nadine Garner in full costume. Reg Evans, who plays an Austro-Hungarian gossip-monger, reports that even TV tough guy Gus Mercurio was reduced to tears when he saw the show.
